The JCCNS has created a contest in celebration of Tu B’Shvat. Every time a member works out at the J, a leaf is added to the tree. Every workout counts – so go for a walk on the J’s new treadmills, take a swim or dance in a Zumba class. The member with the most leaves by February 9 will win a prize. Above, Group Exercise Manager Maria Calla hangs a leaf on the tree.

Special to the Journal
Few people may know the name Marcus Rothkowitz, and yet Mark Rothko is one of the most famous modern painters in the world. And while his works may look like splotches and lines, his story, as interpreted through a new production of John Logan’s Tony Award-winning “Red” by The Speakeasy Stage Company (www.speakeasystage.com), is a fascinating exploration of expression that discusses the life of the artist and the meaning of art itself.
