The Jewish Federation of the North Shore released its projected allocations for the coming year.
When the annual campaign drive closes January 31, 2010, it is projected to bring in $1,424,498 or a 12 percent drop from 2008.

I would like to think how much more these allocations would be if our community wakes up and donates to the charities directly in lieu of continuing to donate to subsidize the Federation.
Going one step further, if an entire layer of bureaucracy is eliminated the no Federation to donate to, all the money that went to paying salaries and overhead of Federation employees and resources can be given to the "real" charitable causes, noted in the allocations breakdown.

How much would be saved if the Federation leaders lost their egoes & moved back to the JCC ????

I will give Ray Feiven's comment one better mark:

How about if the Federation was eliminated and all the money it received that would include not only allocations stated and overhead went directly to the charities directly?

Figure it this way: suppose you donated one thousand dollars directly to the Jewish cause of your choice, or gave it to the Federation with a stipulation for its usage-do you really think that everything you gave to Federation, even with your stipulation, would go to that charity directly? A good question to ask would be how much of every dollar goes to overhead and how much to direct beneficiaries of the Federation?
