Peanut Butter and Jelly Project
Waltham —
On Fridays, Gann Academy students are encouraged to explore their connection to Judaism in non-traditional ways via a program called Chug Shabbat. A group of students created a community service project, making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the Waltham Soup Kitchen.
When the PB and J Chug Shabbat group (Alyssa Bickoff, Haley Klein, Sam Lejfer and Rachel Wolfman) was told there wasn’t enough money in the budget for them to continue making sandwiches, they decided to raise the money themselves. They wrote a letter and sent it to local businesses explaining their need. In direct response to their request, the group received $400 in support from BJ’s Wholesale Club.
