Rosalyn B. (Green) Altshuler, 98, of Swampscott
Born in the West End of Boston in 1909, she was the youngest of six children of the late Max and Mary (Blake) Bloomberg. She lived in Swampscott for the past 35 years, previously residing in her early years in Malden, and later in Newton and Lynn. Mrs. Altshuler was employed at Lane Drug on Union Street in Lynn for over 20 years in retail cosmetic sales, retiring in 1980. She was a long-time member of Congregation Anshe Sfard of Lynn, as well as numerous charitable organizations. “Roz,” as she was known, was an animal activist providing food and shelter to stray dogs and cats her entire life. She was a devoted mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sons, Larry Green of Marblehead and Arthur Green of New York; her grandchildren, Michael Green of New York City, Ricki Green Rabin of Dallas, Texas, Rhonda Green Cutter and Mindy Green of New York, and four great-grandchildren: Reece, Alexis and Cooper Rabin, and Travis Cutter. Services were held graveside on March 13 at the Ahavas Achim Anshe Sfard Cemetery in Lynn. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to your local animal shelter. Arrangements were under the direction of the Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel in Salem.
Linda
Rae (Suckney) Klein, 63,
Born in Boston, the daughter of the late Jacob and May (Segal) Suckney, Linda was raised in Chelsea, where she attended school and graduated from Chelsea High School. Linda also lived in California for a number of years, where she graduated from Santa Monica City College. Devoted
to son Michael of Swampscott and Peabody, and sister to Arthur A. Suckney
of Peabody, Linda’s passing is deeply felt by them and her other
family members: sister-in-law Margo (Ribeck), niece Jennie (Suckney) Blecher
and husband Todd Blecher, and nephew Randy Suckney. A retired Santa Monica parole officer, Linda brought joy to all who knew her. For many years she lived in Venice Beach, Calif. She enjoyed going to Mohegan Sun, visiting with her close friends, and collecting Kennedy memorabilia. She was a member of the committee to elect Robert Kennedy president. Funeral services were held in the Torf Funeral Chapel in Chelsea on April 21. Rabbi Karen Landy of Congregation Havurat Shalom in Andover officiated, with burial following in the Mishna Cemetery in Everett. Mr. Rubin was born in Boston, the son of the late Abraham and Bessie (Dane)
Rubin. He was a graduate of Roxbury Memorial High School and attended
Bentley College, where he studied accounting. He was a long-time member of the Hebrew Life Center in Roslindale and was a member of the Mt. Scopus Masonic Lodge in Malden for many years. He is survived by three devoted children, Phyllis Cohen and her husband Marvin of Framingham and Mashpee, Melvin Rubin and his wife Judith of Framingham, and Donna Kagan and her husband Spencer of Marblehead. He is also survived by two loving sisters, Diana Sturman and her husband Ernie of Portland, Maine, and Doris Cohen of Stoughton; six cherished grandchildren, Risa Kahn and her husband Larry, Jana Korn and her husband Stephen, Matthew Rubin and his wife Karyn, Michelle Rubin, Rachelle Dubow and her husband Jonathan, and Shari Robbins and her husband Kenneth; eight dear great-grandchildren, Justin, Elyse, Benjamin, Arielle, Dylan, Jesse, Laci and Jake. He was also the loving brother of the late Muriel Grupp. Funeral services were held on April 22 at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel in Brookline, with interment following in Atereth Israel Cemetery in West Roxbury. Marion (Hiller) Swartz-Kimmelman, 91, formerly of Winthrop Marion (Hiller) Swartz-Kimmelman, a resident of Greenville, S.C., and formerly of Winthrop, entered into rest on April 13 at the Greenville Memorial Hospital. She was 91 years old and the wife of the late Max Kimmelman and the late Jack Swartz, and mother of the late Franklin Kimmelman. Born and raised in Patterson, N.J., the daughter of the late Samuel and Dorothy (Glickman) Hiller, Marion was a graduate of Montclair College in N.J. Marion was a retired nurse, a member of the Sisterhood of Congregation Tifereth Israel of Everett, and a Girl Scout Troop Leader in Everett for 12 years. Marion is survived by her grandchildren, Todd, Michael, and Susan, and her nephews, Alan Roffman of Fla., and Dennis Roffman of N.H. She was the sister of the late Theodore Hiller, Sally Roffman, Minna Gottlieb, Fran Dubin and Shirley Epstein, and the aunt of the late Gloria Harthiemer. Graveside funeral services were held on April 18 in the Onikchty Society Cemetery, Rt. 99, Melrose/Saugus line. (Weintrob) Shapiro, 77, of Swampscott Edith S. (Weintrob) Shapiro, 77, of Swampscott, entered into rest suddenly on April 20 at the North Shore Medical Center–Salem Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Irwin Shapiro. Born in Chelsea on May 23, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Saul and Nettie (Stone) Weintrob. She was a graduate of Chelsea High School, class of 1948. She had been the proprietor of Fashions by Edith in Lynn for ten years and she also worked as a dental assistant in the earlier years of her life. Mrs. Shapiro had strong family bonds and was a devoted mother and grandmother. It brought her great joy to be with her family during the holidays and she especially enjoyed being a major part in her grandchildren’s lives. A long-time resident of Swampscott, she was a member of Temple Israel in Swampscott (now known as Congregation Shirat Hayam) and Temple Shalom in Peabody. Edith was also a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was the devoted mother of George S. Shapiro and his wife Karen of Marblehead, and Ruth-Ann Beagley of Peabody and her longtime boyfriend Paul Gaudette; two cherished grandchildren, Richard A. Beagley and Alexa R. Shapiro. She was also the loving sister of the late Robert L. Winthrop. Graveside services were held on April 23 at Temple Sinai Cemetery in Danvers. Jacob Samuel “John” “Jack” Yellowitz, 91, of Revere Jacob Samuel “John” “Jack” Yellowitz, a longtime resident of Revere, entered into rest on April 16 in the Whidden Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was 91 years old and the beloved husband of the late Frances (Karp) Yellowitz who entered into rest in July, 2007. Born in Chelsea, the son of the late Hyman and Fannie (Marder) Yellowitz, he was raised and educated in Revere where he graduated from Revere High School. Mr. Yellowitz enlisted in the United States Army on October 28, 1942 at Ft. Devens, Mass. He served during WWII with the 3rd Tactical Control Group. Mr. Yellowitz was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, the Victory Medal and the AAF Technician Badge with Radio Bar. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant on February 17, 1946 at the Separation Center at Fort Lewis, Wash. Mr. Yellowitz was employed for many years as a sales manager for Liberty Electrical Supply Company in Cambridge. He was a member of the Moses Michael Hayes Lodge of Masons and enjoyed photography. Mr. Yellowitz will always be remembered for his devotion to family and friends. He had a kind heart, always a warm smile, and a keen sense of humor. Mr. Yellowitz is survived by his devoted daughters, Linda Ungerleider and husband Stanley of Burlington and Dr. Janet Yellowitz of Baltimore, Md.; his cherished grandchildren, Hal Ungerleider and Susan Fletcher; and his loving great-granddaughter, Magnolia Ungerleider. He was the brother of the late Annie Hookness and Ruth Patti. Graveside funeral services were held on April 18 in the Sudilkov Cemetery in Everett.
